On April 9, 2026, the ACM SIGCHI Brazil Chapter (BR-CHI), in a joint effort with the Special Committee on Human-Computer Interaction (CEIHC), livestreamed the webinar “Let’s Create More Accessible PDFs and PPTs!”.
The online meeting was moderated by Renan Vinícius (from BR-CHI) and led by professors Kamila Rodrigues (CEIHC coordinator / ICMC-USP) and Carolina Sacramento (Fiocruz).
Why talk about accessible files now?
Professor Kamila highlighted that, since 2021, the IHC conference has structured a strong accessibility coordination team. Currently, with the migration of the event’s proceedings to the SOL platform, which currently only provides articles in PDF format and not in HTML, it has become mandatory and urgent for the community itself to ensure structurally accessible PDF files. The goal is to enable individuals who are blind or have low vision and use screen readers to consume scientific literature autonomously and equitably.
Watch the recording and access the tools
BR-CHI reinforces that all of this pedagogical material will remain publicly available on its official channel for students, researchers, and professionals to consult. In addition, slide templates and comprehensive accessibility guidelines can be accessed directly under the Resources tab on the IHC website.
